Where to Rent Golf Clubs in the San Diego Area?

If you are traveling to San Diego in Southern California and plan to golf, then you might need to rent golf clubs in San Diego. The advent of high airline baggage fees make bringing your own clubs very expensive, unless you are driving to San Diego and they can go in the trunk of the car.

San Diego is the the sixth largest city in the United States and the birthplace of California. It is considered by many to be one of the premier golf destinations in the world and certainly one of the best in the USA.  With a beautiful year-round temperate climate, it is always golf season in San Diego California.

The San Diego area features over 80 golf courses - so even the most avid golfer is going to have a tough time hitting all the courses. A wide variety between the design of course means there is sure to be a layout to satisfy the taste of every golfer.

East County features more desert style golf courses, whereas the coastal areas feature tree-lined and links style golf courses. The only two coarse bordering the ocean in San Diego are Coronado Golf Course and Torrey Pines Golf Course, and these two famous facilities provide for astounding views with the added challenge of the sea breezes.

Some San Diego golf courses are carved along canyons resulting in dramatic changes in elevation and daily variations of the wind. The factors increase the difficulty of play, which can be a big draw to experienced golfers.

Golf Clubs to Rent in San Diego Area

There are a few options to get the golf clubs you need on your vacation or business trip to San Diego:

Bring Your Own Golf Clubs Along

If you feel most comfortable with your own set of golf clubs and don't mind lugging them through the airport than by all means bring your own golf clubs to San Diego.  The airlines will make you check the clubs as an extra bag with many airlines charging extra for those clubs.  Be sure to check in advance what the extra fees, plus often it is a little cheaper to pay in advance for the extra luggage.  Bringing your own clubs instead of renting is often a lot of extra cost and effort that can lessen the enjoyment of your San Diego golf vacation.

Rent Golf Clubs From the Golf Course

Most club houses and pro shops at golf courses offer rental clubs.  Quality on rental clubs is variable as is availability. Most golf courses charge for clubs by the round and you only have access to the clubs for the time you are on the specific course. If you plan to play multiple rounds at several different courses during your trip you will need to get a different set of clubs each time, which will drive up the rental cost.

Rent Golf Clubs in San Diego from a Dedicated Golf Club Rental Company

In response to the air line baggage fees, and variable quality of clubs available to rent on courses, a new breed of golf club rental company has developed in major golf destinations like Las Vegas and San Diego.  One of the industry leaders in the golf club rental sector is Golf Clubs Away who offers golf clubs for rent in Las Vegas, San Diego, Florida and other US markets.  Rental prices start at just $39 per day (likely cheaper than the baggage charge on the airline) and can be even cheaper. Multi-day rentals and coupon codes can net a small discount off the daily golf club rental rate when using this golf club rental service.

Here is how it works - and the process is automated which is great for people on the go because they can book from any smart phone. You will want to just reserve your clubs on the web at least the day before.  Specify the hotel or golf course you want them delivered too and the date you need the clubs.

Your rental clubs will be waiting at the hotel desk or club pro-shop first thing in the morning tagged with your name on them.  When you are finished playing your rounds, just drop your clubs off at the prearranged location you specified when booking - again typically your hotel or golf resort - before 8PM on the last day of your rental. That is all there is too it.

Of course, you are responsible for any lost or damaged clubs. If you reserve the clubs but don't cancel at least the day before, you pay even if you don't end up using them due to rain or change of plans.  That is just fair because you are paying for access to the clubs, not actual use.  The upside is you can play as many rounds as you want with your rental clubs because you are buying time, not rounds of use.  The risk of not using the clubs is limited because the rental cost is so small.
