The advantages of taking out golf insurance

2016/7/19 16:17:29

In many circumstances, the need for insurance on the golf course might not seem apparent. After all it is hardly the most active and dangerous of sporting activities, on the contrary it is probably one of the most tame. However, it is important to remember that when it comes to insurance policies there are a wide range of policies that can cover you against a variety of eventualities, not just the chance of you or a third party becoming injured.

As any keen golfer will be all too aware the sport is not a cheap one in which to participate. The equipment alone can be fairly expensive with top of the line clubs ranging from anywhere between ?00 and ?00 for drivers and ?00 and ?,000 for irons. Then, of course, there is the price of membership of a prestigious golf club; this certainly does not come cheap, though it is not really a necessity. And if you are lucky enough - or unlucky, depending on how you look at the situation - to hit a hole in one, there is the inevitable bar tab to worry about.

Thankfully, as mentioned previously there are a number of policies that will cover you for virtually any risk related to golf, even against the possibility that you hit a hole in one and have to pay for a round of drinks. So if you're worried about damaging or losing your new golf clubs then insurance could provide you with the peace of mind that you seek, especially if the cost of replacing them immediately would be beyond your means. Furthermore, there is also a certain amount of risk involved with playing golf, as a 1987 UK court ruling proved. It decided that shouting 'fore' following a shot was no longer an acceptable defence, so if you do happen to hit someone when you take your shot then you could very easily find yourself financially liable.

With the UK adopting so many cultural norms from the USA it's hardly surprising that the compensation culture has spread so quickly to Britain, especially when you consider the fact that virtually everybody likes the idea of getting something for nothing. With this in mind the chances of you finding yourself in a situation where golf insurance is of use are ever growing. Insurance is also available against any loss of earnings that you might experience due to time off work caused by a golfing injury.
