The Web Video Phenomenon And The Ability To Watch Golf Online

2016/7/19 16:17:49

Watching golf is a brilliant pastime. The pleasure of watching it live, at a golf tournament is very enjoyable. It can be time-consuming, and indeed quite tiring to keep up as a hobby though. Squeezing a trip to Augusta in a weekend is perhaps quite difficult to coordinate, depending on one's locations of course, and it's really something we golf fans save for a treat - an occasional reward. Not a weekly occurrence.

It's not a bad compromise though, as the level of televisual broadcast coverage is quite impressive. There could be some golf on right now in fact, but this medium does it's little niggles and annoyances, as well as limitations. Golf on television is usually on some kind of dedicated sporting channel, which are often only carried by subscription services. These can be very expensive, and if you only watch golf and no other sports then you really aren't getting the most bang for your entertainment buck. Watching golf highlights is an absolute treat, but it's not worth paying through the nose for - and most people can't afford to squander their hard earned cash in such a way.

There is a growing medium for golf lovers, which they appear to be flocking to for a variety of reasons - online. Yes it's finally happened, everything is online now. Well, not everything but you get the idea, there's not a lot that can't be done digitally. Online is fantastic because it offers a free or fairly priced service that is accessible anywhere. And when I say anywhere, I do mean anywhere. Unlike traditional broadcast mediums such as television - the internet, and our access to it, has expanded phenomenally in recent times. There's the old fashioned desktop, I can't believe it's really come to the point when it's actually become old fashioned, and then there are devices such as smartphones, games consoles and internet televisions. It's all internet all the time, so the online medium has great potential.

Watching golf online might seem to detract somewhat from the majesty of live golf. There's no point in watching Luke Donald's birdie on the ninth on a tiny mobile device, you might say, but the keener fans will appreciate being kept up to date with the latest updates whilst they are on the go - I can tell you that much. Even if it were so that watching on a mobile were less enjoyable, the standard of internet speeds and therefore data transfer rates, and ultimately video quality online is very high - and is only increasing. So when you get home you can enable your smart TV and watch golf online in very high quality that rivals broadcast quality. In fact, you can even get high-definition online.

All in all, it's a revolutionary new broadcast medium. The internet supposes a sense of inferiority when it comes to watching something as serious and traditional as golf - but the fact of the matter is, it's a brilliant way to watch.
