The Seven Crucial Secrets To Hitting Long Irons With Pinpoint Accuracy

2016/7/19 16:22:09

The one through four irons or "long irons" are frequently the most problematic to master. As with all irons regular practice is key. Hitting long irons with accuracy and consistency takes a high level of concentration on the technical essentials of a sound golf swing.

The Essential Keys:

With all of the swing tips available these days it's easy to get overwhelmed. Even if this isn't the case it is essential that you stay focused on the four core elements of a strong swing: sturdy balance, smooth tempo, club head head acceleration, and good aim. All of these elements must be present for your shots to be accurate and consistent when hitting long irons.

The Key Objective:

In the end your goal is to hit the ball with the center of your club face consistently. As we are well aware, this is quit difficult when hitting long irons but keep these steps in mind and the process should become easier.

1. Start with a solid stance slightly bending the knees for stability.

2. Swing smoothly both while taking the club back and throughout your followthrough. This will give you improved distance because of the enhanced club speed that you will be able to achieve, as well as better club face control.

3. Harness the power of the core. Swinging from the arms with a ridged body is a very common issue. Your power comes from the hips. Harness that power.

4. Keeping your head down is exceptionally important. Hitting long irons is a highly technical shot and demands total focus.

5. Don't let your leading arm bend. This nearly always results in a miss hit or a needlessly more complicated swing. Bending the arm changes the point of contact between the club head and the ball which greatly increases chance of error.

6. Never strike the ground before the ball. Some circumstances may call for contact with the ground during your stroke, make sure this contact occurs after contacting the ball. The club should give you plenty of loft without trying to hit under the ball.

7. Follow through toward you target. Putting the brakes on the club early will end up in an incomplete swing which will effect your swing speed.

Being aware of these points while hitting long irons during practice will most certainly help your long game.
