Thousands of people head abroad on golfing holidays each year and it's easy to see why. All over Europe there are some simply stunning golf courses set in gorgeous surroundings. One of the most popular golfing destinations is Spain. The island courses of Mallorca and Tenerife have long been popular for relaxing golfing weekends (or fortnights, if you're allowed!) and the mainland offers some cracking courses along the coastlines of the Costa Blanca, Costa Del Sol and Costa Brava. Spain is popular with golfers as it allows them to combine their hobby with the traditional Mediterranean holiday.

Portugal, like Spain, allows you to ensure that the entire family are holiday. The popular Mediterranean enclave of the Algarve is host to a number of stunning golf courses and is a popular family holiday destination too. The climate is very similar to that of neighbour Spain and the golf courses world-famous for their quality and playability. With such gorgeous scenery and surroundings, Portugal makes for a popular and truly unforgettable golfing holiday.

If the Mediterranean climate isn't quite your thing, you may fancy a golfing holiday which is almost on your doorstep. Ireland has a number of reputable, high-quality golf courses and the local hospitality is world famous. As Ireland is close to home, the value for money aspect makes this a worthy consideration - not to mention the fact that Ireland's playable golf courses are sought after by golfing holidaymakers the world over.

Ask any golf fanatic what he thinks of France and he's sure to mention Chateau d'Augerville, Golf du Medoc and Evian Royal Resort. These resorts are famed the world over for their quality and playability. France is easily accessible from the UK and you can even take your car over - or under, as the case may be. With many pockets of France also being famous for their fine wines and delicious cuisine, it's sure to make for an unforgettable holiday.

What kind of list of European golfing destinations would this be without mentioning the world-renowned home of golf? Scotland is home to over 550 top class golf courses and many golfing enthusiasts from all over the world make the essential pilgrimage to such famous courses as Turnberry, St Andrews and Carnoustie. With gorgeous scenery and stunning golf hotels, this is an essential golfing holiday and certainly one to remember.
