How To Properly Address The Ball

The following golf instruction tips will help you with your overall swing.You must set-up correctly, if you are going to have a chance of hitting a respectable golf shot. If you are not in the correct position at address, you will more than likely hit a poor shot.

Many golfers fail to remember this fact when trying to correct a swing concern. The set-up is part of the basic golf mechanics and should be worked on, like with any other part of your game.It is one of the most crucial golf instruction tips you should follow.

If you would like to be able to coil and uncoil fully, the proper set-up will help you achieve that. Your accuracy and power will increase, when you are balanced throughout your swing. More power equals longer shot.

So, how do you know if your set-up is correct? The next important golf instruction tip is stance width.You will learn the proper set-up in the next few paragraphs. Your stance should be 2" wider than your shoulders, when hitting your driver or long irons. For mid irons your feet should be shoulder width apart. For short irons you want to narrow your stance a couple of inches than shoulder width apart. Although these are great tips, all golfers are not equal, you should use these as a place to start. You may need to modify your stance slightly to get the proper feel.

Your front foot should angle a little towards your target. This will encourage proper coiling of the shoulders and hips. The Back foot should be straight to the target. Your knees need to be flexed and you should be bent over slightly from the hips. In this position, your shoulders and arms will form a triangle, with your elbows pointing at your hips.

As you set-up, be positive that your shoulders and hips are in line with the target. This will increase your chances of hitting the ball where you are aiming to.

Placing the ball correctly in your stance, will improve your ball striking ability. Ball position will be different, due to the different shaft lengths. The shorter the club, the further back in your stance the ball will be.

For the driver you want to place the ball about 5" forward of center in your stance.

When using your fairway woods or long irons, you should place the ball about 4" forward in your stance.

The ball should be placed 2" forward in your stance, when using your middle irons.

When using your short irons or wedges you should position the ball in the center of your stance.

You may need to play with these ball placements, to find the right position for your game. finding the ball positions that work for you, may take some time and practice. The chief thing is, find what works for you and your stance.

Placing your weight on the balls of your feet will help keep you balanced. To remain balanced during your swing, you need to stay off of your heels. If you want to hit the ball with more power and accuracy, you need to strive to stay balanced when you swing.
