Details You Have To Know Before You Purchase Pre-Owned Golf Clubs

Many people these days are making the choice of buying used golf golf clubs rather than new ones because of the price they want for them. It seems that the main reason that is always given for buying used clubs is the price. Another plus is that it keeps that used set out of the landfills. So when looking at used golf clubs, what should we know?

The face of the golf clubs head need to be the first thing that you look at to make sure that there is not much wear. Older clubs that have been used a lot will have a noticeable thin or worn area on the face of the club. It many times appears shiny. This is not good because the club face won't hold the ball as well as it should. The groves in the face of the club all need to have good definition and not have any dents what soever as these will make a difference in the flight of your ball.

The next critical thing that you need to examine on the used clubs is the shaft. If the shaft is graphite and has any areas that are worn or indented, you need to avoid them as well, as these points can cause weakness in the shaft. Grab a hold of the head and the grip and twist them in opposing directions. If there isn't great resistance, it's a sign of weakness in the shaft. This test is for graphite shafts. If the shaft is made out of steel, then you simply need to look down the shaft and make sure that it hasn't been bent and re-straightened.

The grips in used golf clubs are also something that you must pay attention to. The things that you need to look for will include worn area, cracks, and splits. If you are really taken with a set and the grips need help, then you can get new grips put on them but you are looking at a cost of around 6 to 15 dollars per club.

Does the used golf club set have consistency with each other. Line them all up in a row and make a comparison. Make sure they all appear to have been in the original set. You want your used golf clubs to all be the same make and model that they are supposed to be. You can throw off the progression of your lofts throughout the set by mixing and matching.

Make sure that you do a price comparison between the cost of the used clubs that you are looking at and a new set. You never know there might be a sale going on and you may end up paying less for the new set than for the used set. Many times golf stores will have some really great discounts going on, so don't be too hasty when looking at used golf clubs.

Until you make a few test swings with a set of used golf clubs, you will never know how well they will perform. Find a place to take a few test swings and see how they feel to you.

If you buy a set of golf clubs that are used you can save yourself a great deal of money on the essential golf gear that is the most pricey aspect of the game. You need to understand what we talked about above before you invest in a set that is used. It can make a world of difference!
