How To Putt More Consistently

2016/7/20 9:54:13

So how do you putt more consistently, well you need to do a few things but let's start with the putter. You have to find a putter that you like, something that makes it feel like a friend, good to be with and hold a bit like your wife, partner or girlfriend! Seems obvious I know but I have met many people who when I ask "how do you like that putter" they say "well it's ok but I am not sure I made more putts with my old one" so why did they change you may ask.

Everyone thinks that by changing their putter they will hole more putts when in fact what they should do is change their thinking, the mind is so powerful and with golf being a game where you have to hit a stationary ball it is all too important to be in the right frame of mind. One thing to do is to be used to thinking that every putt you hit goes in the hole, by this I mean just say to yourself on the way to the course, approaching the putting green and before you make the stroke that you always put the ball in the hole.

This positive self talk is important in all sport and life in general but when it comes to putting it is a must. They say Tiger Woods is so strong mentally that he is able to will the ball into the hole and the putter has little to do with it apart from sending the ball in the right direction. Another trick is to practise with one ball and approach that one putt on the putting green as though it is to win your club championship or a similar important event.

By using your mind more than anything else your grip and position when you set up to put will all be secondary, every golfer holds the putter and stands differently, I is a matter of being comfortable and when you are comfortable in your mind you will stroke the ball perfectly.
