Correct A Golf Slice - 3 Tips That May Help

Golf is a game that a countless number of people enjoy every year. We all enjoy golf for different reasons. Some of us do it to get away from everyday life, others to enjoy a friends company, some for the scenery, and there are a few that do it for a living. One thing that we all have in common is we need to correct a golf slice. From beginner to the best professionals, we all slice. It's one of the most frustrating parts of the game. Everyone's slice is caused by different things going wrong. So you will have to do some experimenting to see what helps correct you golf slice.

There are 3 things that most amateurs can do that will either help you slice less, or make the slice not so bad. The swing itself should be broken down and corrected. But these quick fixes will help you lower scores.

To Much Power can be Bad:

Most amateur golfers think the harder they swing, the more distance the ball will go. This may be true for some but for most others this will result in a slice that may end up in the next fairway. All of the little defects that you have in your golf swing are going to be magnified the harder you swing your club. Think about this, a ball hit 200 yards that lands in your fairway leaves you a much better 2nd shot than a ball hit 250 yards but goes 30 yards off the fairway and is the deep rough. The ball that didn't go as far but is in the fairway will most likely give you a decent chance at making the green in regulation. Where as the other will not let you control the ball as well plus hitting out of the rough is always tricky. You will must likely have to lay up or completely miss the green.

Instead of trying to crush the ball take a nice, easy swing. You may not get all the yardage that you would like to see, but it will give you more options for an approach shot and better chance of making the green.

Adjust your Aim:

For a lot of people, aiming to the left or your target can reduce the negative results of a slice. This will help your slice, you just need to be careful. Although you may slice frequently, you probably don't slice on every shot. For the times that you hit a straight shot, aiming to far to the left can have a negative result just like a slice. When I use this technique, I aim the left edge of the fairway where I think the ball will land. That way it won't matter if I hit a straight shot or a slice, it should still be safely in the fairway.

Change your Grip:

This doesn't mean you should change the way that you hands grip the club. A common cause of a slice is your club face being opened when it impacts that ball. So an easy way to correct this is to turn the club slighty before you swing. When you address your ball, the club face will typically be square to your target. Turning the face slightly to the left before you swing may be the cure that you are looking for.

Every golf slices for different reasons. No single correction is going to work for everyone out there. You will have to take some time and see what helps you correct your golf slice. Often times a little adjustment will go a long way, so be sure to do a little at a time. Also make sure to try these tips one at a time to see which one helps you the most.
