Golf Has A New Number One

2016/7/20 10:02:34

I think everyone that played the game or new the man, knew he would be number one at one point this year. Rory McIlroy tops Luke Donald as the number one golfer in the world. Luke Donald now in second place with 8.97 points with Rory’s wins at The Honda Classic he takes first with 9.29 points.

Luke had this to say in a tweet about Rory’s newfound fame “Congrats @McIlroyRory enjoy the view!" coming from a true champion.

Rory McIlroy at the young age of 22 is right behind Tiger Woods as the youngest player to have the number one position in the world golf rankings.

By far Rory never walked away with the win he worked for every point and every point counts. Tiger Woods has the crowd roaring has he starts his climb up in the third round. Achieving his lowest score ever in a round with a 62 he gets within one stroke of McIlroy.

No room for mistakes Rory finishes the round with an one under par giving him 69 for the third round and 268 four the tournament pushing Tiger and Tom Gillis down the latter by two points and second place.

Rory’s 66 in the first round gave him a five-point lead over Tiger and a four-point lead on Lee Westwood. In the second round at the 14th hole Rory hits his second shot to two feet of the hole it was a great shot he taps it down the hole for a birdie. At the end of the second round, Tiger hits a 68 but Rory betters him by one at 67.

On the third day, McIlroy hits inside the bunker on the 18th hole, taking his time he gets his shot within twelve feet of the flag and birdies the putt. Third round Tiger Woods is three behind McIlroy's 66 point round with a 69.

The final round and Rory doesn’t make a great first nine and Tiger Woods is on fire. Tiger being the champion that he is takes the game and adds excitement at every corner but even with his best 62 score in the fourth round it is not enough to take down the 22 year old from Ireland.

With a 69 fourth round and a total of 268 points for the Honda Classic, McIlroy’s third PGA Tour wins. Rory takes to looking for dad after the 18th hole and gives him a victory hug as he takes the win.

Standing number one in the world, for how long will Rory McIlroy rule with the competition biting at his heels at every chance they get? It will be a great ride in the world rankings to see what happens to the lead throughout the year.
