Mechanics Of A Good Golf Swing

The mechanics of a good golf swing can be very complicated. There are so many different things going on at one time that it can get overwhelming. Lets try to simplify some of this.

First things first, lets start with griping the club. The grip you have on a club is important because it affects the position of the club face throughout the swing. When gripping the club you want the grip in your fingers not in your palm. Holding it in your fingers will help you control the club better.

Once you get the grip down you need to position your feet correctly. There are many things that determine where you want the ball in your stance. The first is your club selection. The longer club that you are gonna use the further up in your stance you want the ball. The second is ball trajectory or shot shaping, which is something we aren't real concerned about in this part of the process.

Have you ever swung your club and completely missed your ball? One thing that you will hear over and over again with any golfer is, keep your head down. This seems so little of importance but it is crucial. For the less experienced golfer we want to pull our head and try to see where the ball is going. It is a hard habit to correct but it is very important in the mechanics of a good gold swing. When you are able to do this you will see lower scores.

The swing itself is very complicated. There are two main parts of the swing. First is the backswing, and the second is the actual swing. It is hard for us amateurs because naturally we think the harder you swing the further the ball will go. This however, as you have probably already discovered, is not true. Swinger harder will more often than not destroy your golf shot. It may result in slice or hook and usually the ball doesn't go nearly as far as you were planning. The mechanics of a good golf swing require a nice and easy back swing with a slight pause at the top, followed by the same kind of swing and follow through.

Part of having a good golf swing is body position. When you have mastered this you are ready to start working on the shot itself. Knowing the mechanics of a good golf swing is not all the complicated when you are taught correctly. When you master all of this, or at least get better at it, you will begin to see your scores dropping. Which is something that we all can use a little more of.
