Warrior Custom Golf On Basic Golf Terminology

As with any type of sport there will always be basic terminology that players and spectators are aware of which refer to the events of the game play, explains Warrior Custom Golf. Here is a list of some basic golf terms that are commonly used by those out on the golf course during the game. Read on to make yourself more familiar with the basic terminology of golf so that you will be fully aware of everything going on throughout the game.

Approach 鈥?A shot that a golf player takes from the fairway to the green.

Away 鈥?This is the description of the golf ball that lies the farthest away from the cup when there are two or more players in the game, notes WarriorCustomGolf.com. The Away ball is always the one that is the first to be played on each turn.

Birdie 鈥?A birdie is scored when a player sinks their ball into the cup in one stroke under par for that particular hole. If a player takes four strokes to get a ball in the cup at par five, then they receive a birdie.

Bogey 鈥?This occurs when the number of strokes that it takes the player to sink the ball exceeds the par for that hole. On a par three, a score of four is referred to as a bogey.

Break 鈥?The slope area on the course that is located between the lie of the ball and the cup itself.

Caddie 鈥?An individual that is hired to carry around a golf player鈥檚 bag while on the golf course.

Chip Shot 鈥?This is a shot that is used over a short distance where the ball is popped into the air so that it can roll toward the pin.

Club Face 鈥?The area on the golf club that is used for striking the ball.

Cup/The Hole鈥?The round 4 录鈥?diameter hole located on each green.

Divot 鈥?A clump of grass that has been dug up from underneath the ball, on fairway iron shots.

Dog Leg 鈥?This refers to any golf hole that is located where the fairway bends to the left or to the right of the hole, similar to an actual dog鈥檚 leg.

Drop Ball 鈥?This term refers to various situations such as a ball landing in the water or one that has gotten lost whereas the golfer takes a drop ball, notes Warrior Custom Golf. With an outstretched hand, the player will drop the ball onto the course in a position that is not any closer to the hole than where the original ball had initially landed.

Drive 鈥?A golfer鈥檚 first stroke from the tee box onto every hole.

Eagle 鈥?This occurs when a golfer is two strokes under the par for the hole, notes WarriorCustomGolf.com. On a par four, if the player has hit on their second shot, they get a score of two which is also commonly referred to as an eagle.

Fairway 鈥?the long neatly trimmed stretch of grass that is located in between the tee box and the green.

Fore! 鈥?A phrase that is used as a warning when players believe that a golf ball may end up striking another person or player on the course.
