Welsh Ladies Golfer Anna Carling from Cardiff finishes 5th in US Womens College Golf Event

Welsh Ladies Golf internationalist Anna Carling from Cardiff finished tied fifth from a field of 90 lady golfer at the US Womens College Golf Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate 54-hole tournament at par-72, 6,028 yard Victoria Country Club in the city of Victoria, Texas.

The Vale of Glamorgan golfer, who is a 1st year golf scholarship student at Arkansas State University, carded rounds of 76, 78 and 75 for a total of 229 in atrocious weather conditions of strong wind and driving rain.

Grimsby抯 Jessica Schiele of Redlands Community College posted rounds of 76, 76 and 81 for a total of 233 and a share of 11th place.
Royal Liverpool Golf Club member Laura Jones, a golf scholarship student at Oklahoma City University, had scores of 76, 84 and 80 for T28 place on 240.

Mancunion Kelly MacPhail, also of Redlands Community College, finished joint 53rd on 246 with scores of 81, 81 and 84.
Kristen Hill of Akron University Womens Golf Team, with rounds of 74, 77 and 72, won the leading individual medallist honours by 3 shots with a seven over par total of 223.

Texas State (913) won the womens college golf team event ahead of Oklahoma (916) and Sam Houston State (938).

The in-form Peter Hedblom of Sweden has won the 2009 Johnnie Walker Championship and a cheque for $380,000 at Gleneagles to make amends for a play-off defeat the previous week on the European Tour.

The Swede held off a low-scoring charge from fellow-countryman Martin Erlandsson (62) to win by a stroke with a closing round of five-under-par 67 for a winning aggregate score of 13-under-par, 275.

Erlandsson抯 $256,000 runner-up prize will enable him to climb from 135th on the European Tour money-list to virtually ensure a card for the 2010 golf season.

Last year抯 winner Gregory Havret (67) of France and 36 hole leader Paul Lawrie of Scotland (69) tied for third place, three shots behind the winner.

Gary Orr of Scotland finished in 5th place after shooting an eight under par score of 64 in the final round.

The top10 was made up of four players, Shiv Kapur (69) of India, Gregory Bourdy (70) of France, Jamie Donaldson (70) of Wales and Steven O扝ara of Scotland finishing in T6 place on -8, 280.
