Better Feel Ping Rapture Fairway Wood Review

2016/7/20 14:23:29

Ping has introduced their Rapture line, multi-material clubs that allow for manipulation of the center of gravity for optimal launch conditions. The Ping rep dropped off some of their new product for my assistant pros and I to try out so that we could get a full understanding of how they had utilized the multi material designs to improve launch conditions from tee to green.

The Rapture fairway wood is available in 14* (3 wood), 17* (5 wood), and a 20* (7 wood) with the new TFC 909, Aldila VS Proto, or NV 75. Since the entire head is made out of titanium, Ping was able to make it larger, to increase the moment of inertia. An internal weight pad is placed directly beneath the center of gravity to increase launch angle while keeping the spin rate low. The face is made of 6-4 titanium which increases COR for added distance. The face is then robotically welded to the body which eliminates heacy weld lines so that more weight can be re-positioned in the head for forgiveness. The new Ping wrap grip is not the best; it can get slick when it is hot out or raining.

As soon as I got out on the course, I noticed that the ball really jumped off the face of the golf club. The 14* loft, instead of 15* that most fairway woods have helps increase distance. The higher launch with lower spin helps to give the ball a more penetrating ball flight that fights the wind. I tested a 3 wood and a 5 wood with the VS Proto 85 gram shaft. I liked how the ball flew off of these woods, but did not like the larger profile at address. The oversized club head was a little distracting and made me feel like I needed to tee it up to hit the ball cleanly. I did like the performance off the tee though; the ball launched like a driver, but had a little lower overall ball flight which makes distance control a little easier. The internal weighting also made this a nice club to hit when you have to hit the ball straight and in the Fairway Wood. The trade off for the long and straight is that you really need to work hard to hit a draw or fade, the internal weighting makes the ball fly straight and corrects slight manipulations in how the golf club hits the ball (open, square, or closed).

This is a great Ping Rapture Fairway Wood for someone who is looking for a little added forgiveness without sacrificing distance. With a retail price of $1399.99, you must be willing to make quite an investment in this club. Golf is a sport that to play you need to buy a lot of golf equipment. So it's very important that you must own some resources of golf discount superstore, because they can save your money on the equipment fees. If you are not careful, golf clubs are the single biggest expense that you face. I strongly recommend Ping Rapture Fairway Wood in golf store shop. So discount golf clubs can go a long way toward making this expensive game more affordable.
