NSW PGA next stop for Aussie Tour

2016/7/20 14:23:59

After a thrilling week in Victoria, the PGA Tour of Australasia has made its way to Wollongong Golf Club for the 2010 Cellarbrations NSW PGA Championship which tees off tomorrow.

144 players have made their way to the beach-side Wollongong club that this year hosts (Callaway FT-iz Fairway Wood) the event for the second consecutive season.

This year's event follows a spectacular 2009 NSW PGA Championship where a final round of four-under 66 gave Novocastrian Aaron Townsend victory on a course regarded as one of the oldest (Callaway FT-iz driver), and most picturesque, links style courses in New South Wales.

Teeing off tomorrow from 6.50am this week's field will be looking to add their names to the illustrious list of past champions that include Kel Nagle, Bill Dunk, Norman Von Nida, Wayne Grady, Peter Senior, Wayne Riley, Bob Shearer and Brett Ogle.

Leading the charge will be 2009 Queensland PGA Champion, Steven Bowditch, 2010 Midea China Classic Champion Kim Felton and a rookie professional who made a big impression playing with Tiger Woods (Callaway Diablo Edge Irons) in last week's event, Kieran Pratt.

22-year-old Pratt was drawn into the spotlight last week when he played alongside the World. No. 2 in the third round.

What's more (Callaway X-24 Hot Irons), Pratt walked off the course ahead of Woods on the leaderboard having shot an impressive round of one-under while Woods failed to break par.

Pratt will start this week playing alongside Bowditch and Laycock teeing off at 7.30am.

Townsend is also back to defend his title, and will tee off alongside the big-hitting Kurt Barnes and Scott Laycock at 7.40am.

The Cellarbrations NSW PGA Championship is the first of three PGA Tour of Australasia events to be played in New South Wales in the coming weeks.

The event precedes the NSW Open hosted by Nathan Green and the Australian Open.

The tournament will be played at Wollongong Golf Club (par 70) from Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st November 2010.

The field will by vying for their share of the $115,000 prize purse.
