Golfers present hefty charity donation

Retief Goosen and Anthony Wall dug deep to raise more than £25,000 for a local children's charity.

The pair presented Jane Gates, founder of Sebastian's Action Trust, with a cheque from the Tour Player's Foundation(golf wholesale).

The contribution adds to the £7,000 raised by various events at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last month.

"The generosity of the Tour Players Foundation and the people who donated during the BMW PGA Championship is overwhelming," said Mrs Gates (Titleist Golf Bag B0008 2010).

The money will pay for a new sensory room in the charity's holiday home for terminally ill children called The Bluebells, which is near Basingstoke.

Work is due to start this month on the house which will feature two four-bedroom catering apartments for families(Taylormade Golf Bag B0005 2010), as well as on-site leisure facilities.

The charity, based in Sunninghill, Berkshire, was formed in the memory of Sebastian Gates, who died aged nine on Christmas Eve 2003 from a rare form of childhood cancer.

Before he died, Sebastian said he wanted to build a holiday home for children in a similar position and started raising cash to do that(Callaway Golf Bag B0009 2010). His mum continued his work by setting up the charity

"The multi-sensory room in the respite house will offer relief and stimulation to those with problems with their sight, hearing and touch," added Mrs Gates.

"It will have a soft, cushioned floor, multi-coloured light tubes, textured surfaces and will be a place where other massage and other complementary therapies can be enjoyed.

"I cannot thank anyone enough for the funds which will help enormously towards equipping (golf wholesale) this unique facility which will be called The Bluebells and which will give much-needed crisis breaks to seriously ill children and their families."
