The Ryder Cup And The Open - Two Big Golf Events In The Uk In 2010

2016/7/20 14:29:48

This year golfers and golf fans alike will be pleased to hear that two of the biggest tournaments in the game of golf are to be held in the UK. The Open, being held at the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland and the Ryder Cup, held this year at The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales. The Open is held at one of the many golf courses throughout the British Isles every year with Royal Birkdale and Turnberry being recent hosts but this year golf fans have two major events with the Ryder Cup being held on this side of the Atlantic also.

The Open
Last year's Open at Turnberry presented many challenges for golfers from all around the world, particularly the terrific performance from Tom Watson who despite being a veteran on the golfing circuit played stunning golf that went right down to the wire against eventual winner Stewart Cink.

The tournament was a closely fought battle between a number of British players and Americans Stewart Cink and Tom Watson, whilst the media had a field day with veteran flying in the face of the many younger faces in the tournament. The tournament was eventually decided on a playoff between Cink and Watson with Cink sealing the win thanks to terrific composure and determination.

This year's tournament takes place at a historic course in St. Andrews and is sure to be on par with the rollercoaster that was 2009's Open at Turnberry.

The Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is one of the events in the golf calendar that many non-golf fans take great interest in as it is a case of Europe taking on the Americans. Crowds at The Ryder Cup are much more rowdy and fervent in their support for their countries and seeing enemies on the course team up for the greater good of a patriotic victory adds up to an exciting mix for golf fans and casual observers alike.

Two years ago at the suitably dramatically named Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky Team USA won after three years of a Team Europe whitewash but this year it's back on European soil with The Celtic Manor in Wales. The course has been made much more viewer friendly with plenty of viewing galleries and places to see all the action.

The 2010 course has been open for play since July of 2007 and players who have sampled the course have built up the venue as a potentially exciting battleground for the golfing elite in 2010.

With these two key events in the golf year you could easily get to the event as a part of a golfing holiday or a spectator with a group of friends, playing at these courses may be difficult during the build up to any of the events as many like-minded golfers fancy their chances on the course this year.

If you want to play golf on holiday then golf travel insurance is a must, protecting your clubs against loss or damage can save you money. Save money on your golfing costs as well by taking advantage of the many 2 for 1 golf offers available for you and a friend to pay one lot of green fees.
