Great Women Athletes on Silver team

2016/7/20 14:31:35

The Colonial Athletic Association has announced that a total of seven past and present golfers of the UNC Wilmington women's golf program have been named to the Colonial Athletic Association's 25th Anniversary team for women's golf.

The seven student-athletes have combined to compile an impressive list of awards both on the course and in the classroom, including three CAA Player-of-the-Year awards, two CAA Rookie-of-the-Year accolades, 10 First-Team All-CAA honors and four Second-Team All-CAA selections. In addition, the group boasts nine National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-Scholar Team picks as well as three CAA Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients.

The group has also played a key role in the Seahawks success since joining the CAA in 2004-05, helping the program capture two Colonial Athletic Association titles and earn three NCAA Regional appearances in that span.

"For UNCW to have seven players named to the CAA 25th Anniversary team is an incredible honor considering we have only been a part of the CAA for five years in women's golf, this accomplishment speaks to the outstanding student-athletes we've had representing UNCW, their determination, dedication and commitment to excellence." said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho.
"Their contribution to our golf program goes beyond their individual accomplishments. They played an integral role in elevating our golf program into the Top 50 in the country. These players demonstrated great sportsmanship and were outstanding students, additionally five achieved Academic All-American status," Ho continued. "As a group, they were tough competitors, high achievers and incredible athletes to be around. Whatever I needed them to do to be successful, they did it."

The seven student-athletes have created a tradition of winning and have set the bar very high for future players. They have been excellent ambassadors for our women's golf program as well as the university and I feel very fortunate to have been their coach.
