Such a nice hybrid :Ping Rapture Hybrid

2016/7/20 14:32:51

Ping has always been a good clubmaker, but they really earned my respect with the G2 and G5 drivers that delivered good performance in a traditional design and at a price that was nice compared to other big clubmakers. Pings newest series of woods, as you may or may not know, are given the intimidating name (which every golf club needs, BTW) Rapture. The Rapture series of clubs continues Ping's idea of creating traditional looking clubs with some modern advancements. The driver features a lightweight carbon crown, but the hybrid doesn't really have any glaring technical advances. The lack of technology is what makes the price of this club puzzling - it's one of the most expensive hybrids I've ever seen!

Hybrids are quickly becoming one of the staples in a players bag. It all started a while ago, but the clubs really didn't take off in popularity until Taylor Made's Rescue clubs. The reason the clubs have become so popular is they replace the long irons the majority of golfers have trouble striking consistently. I personally like hitting my long irons so it's taken me some time to want to pick up a hybrid. Now that I've tried them, I can see their usefulness and like them.

The Rapture has a traditional hybrid shape with a two colored paint job on the crown. It also has no offset of any kind. The Ping comes in lofts of 18, 21, and 24, and with three stock shaft options in the Ping Stock, Aldila VS 80, and steel.

The first couple of shots with the Rapture made it apparent what type of golfer the club was for. The minimal offset made shaping shots effortless. Also, the ball when struck sweetly had a very penetrating, low, boring trajectory. The trajectory could be controlled, but a low ball was favored on a good swing. The low ball flight makes hitting and sticking it on greens nearly impossible, and running the ball from distance onto the green is the best use for this club when a long way out. It's also excellent off the tee, with the added height making for some long tee shots.
