Correcting A Bad Golf Slice

The fastest way to shave strokes off of your golf game is to correct your golf slice. Slicing the ball is probably one of the top errors for new players.

If you don't know that there's a problem, you'll never be able to fix it. If you want to be a great golfer, correcting your slice is essential. I have compiled some simple tips that should get you well on the way to being a better golfer and improving your game.

Your golf stance should be as wide as your shoulders. Your shoulders should be aligned at your target. You should point your right foot ahead and left foot to the left (obviously this may be different if you are left handed). Your elbows should be as natural as possible. If you're too tense, you could ruin the perfect shot. Proper Golf Stance

Minor adjustments to the golf stance can make big changes to your shot, and where the ball ultimately lands. As with all things, practice makes perfect. Try out different golf stances at your local driving range until you get it right.

How you grip the club may also affect your slice. You should grip the club with your left hand and put your thumb on the shaft.

The line between your thumb and finger should now be pointing
towards your right eye. Wrap your right hand over your left hand
and place your left thumb in to your right palm. Again, this
applies only to right handed golfers.

One mistake you should try to avoid is gripping the club too tight with your right hand. This may cause the ball to hook to the left. The total opposite is true with a slice. Grip the club too weakly and your ball will slice to the right.

If you believe that your grip is causing a problem, roll your hands back so your non dominant hand faces the target and your dominant hand faces the other way.

I would just like to re-stress the importance of practice. The only way you'll know for sure if the problem is with your grip is by visiting the driving range and trying out different techniques. It seems like simple advice, but can make a dramatic difference to your game.

Obviously another big part of correcting a golf slice is a good golf swing. A good backswing will start with your hands, be followed up immediately by your arms and then your shoulders. This should all be in one smooth motion.

A downswing should begin with your hips - keep your eyes on the
ball and keep your head behind the ball as you follow through.
After enough practice with different golf swings, you'll honestly be amazed at how quickly you'll lower your golf score.

My final advice today is to play golf on a regular basis. Who cares if you're not that good at the moment? Everyone has to start somewhere! Now get out there and be the best golfer you can be!
