Who actually may be our Next Star PGA Golfers?

It will always be fun in sports activities to try to look at the future and determine just who our next superstars are who are coming up. We actually have not had a dominant player in golf since the glory years of Tiger Woods, but it is looking now that we might have observed in 2014 the heir apparent. And what would be a significantly better treat would be a rivalry with a couple of players which are better than the rest.

That rivalry might be shaping up between Rory McElroy in addition to, surprise! Rickey Fowler. Clearly the name of McElroy isn't a revelation after the dominating 2014. The two major titles wins gives him a sum of 4 majors, plus he's been designated PGA player of the year in two of the previous three years. Plus he managed to do something which has eluded Tiger Woods during his career: to have the dominating performance during a Ryder Cup. No one doubts that McElroy will probably be among the very best players annually.

Rickie Fowler however may still be a bit of a reach. He's still to win a major and actually has only one victory on the PGA Tour, that being in 2012. Even he admits that he's a number of steps behind McElroy now. But though he hasn't been able to break through inside the victory column he's displayed the overall game that could push him to the top. In 2014 Fowler managed to finish within the top five in all four major tournaments. Just Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus, who both achieved it twice, had been able have such a steady year within the major tournaments.

No less an authority than Rory McElroy himself has said that Fowler is the most probable contender for being Rory's chief adversary. Though both are an identical 25 years old, McElroy turned professional a couple of years prior to Fowler. Both deem the other a friend and also have the highest admiration for their respective games. And although traditional rivals do not need to meet on the same venue in golf as frequently as they are going to with tennis, rivalries definitely add to the intrigue to golf, as with every sport.

But still we've not had a first-class rivalry since Woods and Phil Mickelson. But for us which have been around the sport for a while we look back to Nicklaus-Palmer, Nicklaus-Watson as well as Faldo-Norman, and it is one more thing that adds excitement to golf competition.
