We finally found the Spanish Best Golf Course

As big fans of golf, my husband and I have visited some fields around the world. We have first passed through the old continent, still the fields found in Scotland and Ireland are the best of the northern part. However, in the United States we have also found a good number of them that are spectacular for their composition and landscapes. And in our own country we can also attest to this: the Valderrama, in Sotogrande, is (without doubt) the Spanish best golf course.

And it is for many reasons. Firstly, because of the natural environment in which it is located: it has been recognized by the Spanish government for this, mainly for the wildlife that inhabits it, forming a true wildlife sanctuary with the most varied animal species.

This natural wealth provides the fields a majesty that is confirmed in the design of them, made by the famous golf course designer, Robert Trent Jones (author of the design of more than 500 golf courses all over the world).

The excellence in this field is consolidated thanks to its impressive Clubhouse, with its own restaurant that offers to its customers a traditional cuisine in which the palate is not indifferent to the taste. Added to this, the Clubhouse also has a shop especially designed for their members and visitors, and the enjoyment of a few common spaces that are all characterized by possessing an extreme elegance.

But the fact of being considered as the best Spanish golf course is also due to the prestige received by being headquarters for the major global and European tournaments. This magnificent field was an important meeting point for all the best players in professional golf tournaments such as the Volvo Masters, the Ryder Cup, the Amex World Championships or the Andalucia Masters. Tyger Wood, Sergio Garcia or Seve Ballesteros have disputed endless holes through the spectacular countryside of the Valderrama.

This field, which began its career in 1974 under the name of "Las Aves", already had in its infancy times golfers of first line who played in their field. An example of this is the three times world championship Sir Henry Cotton.

In 1985, and with the change of name – it becomes named Valderrama and is founded by Mr. Jaime Ortiz Patiño - starts the reference that has been acquiring through the years. Excellence floods the field and its environment, and becomes, without doubt, the best Spanish golf course.

We have travelled and enjoyed very much the excellent fields that are scattered around the world, but the fact of having one of the best in our own country avoids us having to keep searching for the excellence that we normally look for in all golf courses.
