My highly appreciation for Titleist AP1 714 Irons

This year is an iron year for Titleist and with it brings the introduction of the new 714 series of irons.Looking to upgrade to something more forgiving,I was trying to decide between 714 AP 1 and AP 2.After several rounds, I set my eye on Ap1 714 irons. They gave me a more boring flight than my old Taylormade r11 irons,it also gave a softer feel.

The AP1 714 irons feature a both a larger overall size and a thicker topline than its AP2 714 counterparts. Both clubs also have seen work done to the soles to help provide better turf interaction. One of the changes is a new pre-worn leading edge that reduces digging at the point of entry as well as more camber to help control the divot depth. This was actually one of the biggest things that Jason Dufner liked about them saying "The soles are better, the bounce is configured a little bit differently and the feel is better. They just feel real solid through the strike, there's no turf grab with the leading edge and they're just going right through the turf really nice."

The aim of Titleist when they created the 714 AP1 was to increase the ball flight, the forgiveness and the feel from the iron and we think they have acheived this well. There's no doubt that Titleist AP1 712 Irons were a solid option for golfers looking for help with their consistency and distance. That was proved by sales of the irons, which in 2013 became Titleist's No. 1-selling model. But there's no more competitive iron segment than the game-improvement category, which is why Titleist took great care to make its fourth generation of the AP1 irons its best yet.

The changes are more evolution than revolution as Titleist have been careful not to mess with a successful model. 10% of the weight from the top edge of the undercut cavity has been removed and positioned lower in the head to lower the centre of gravity. The wider sole and larger dual cavity allows the weight to be moved lower and Titleist have used high density tungsten and moved it further towards the toe to increase the stability of the club.

As a result, the Titleist AP1 714 Irons underwent an extensive redesign. Titleist added an additional undercut underneath the top line, which created more discretionary weight. That weight was then moved low and deep in the iron heads, lowering the irons' already low center of gravity (CG) to offer a higher flight for more distance and forgiveness. Titleist also narrowed the soles of the short irons, and made the faces thicker to raise the irons' CG. That gives the short irons a more compact look, solid feel and penetrating trajectory that's aided by their slightly strengthened lofts.

All in all,the feel is moderated by the medallion in the back of the cavity and this gives a very solid feel to all the irons, belying the fact that this is an oversize, cast cavity back head. I would definitely advise anyone to give these irons a serious look.
