Golf Simulators - The Price Difference

You will find all types of golf simulators in the market. They come in various shapes and sizes. You would have noticed that some golf simulators are very cheap and are available for less than 10000$ while some cost more that 50000$. Have you ever tried to figure out why is there such a huge difference in the price when all of these simulators are meant for the same purpose of playing simulated golf. I will make things easy for you guys by pointing out the main differences.

The main reason for charging high amount for high end golf simulators is that they all have one thing in common, which is they all provide game-play on every well known golf courses such as Pebble Beach. It means they simulate these popular real world golf courses into their software. To use the name and their courses in the simulator, these golf simulator companies have to purchase a license which is very costly. This is the biggest reason of price difference as compared to economical simulators which do not have these courses. I am sure you would have never heard of the courses which come with cheap golf simulators.

The other thing which determines the price is the technology used in these simulators. Some of the technologies are infrared sensors, laser, high speed cameras. There are some differences in each technology but they all prove effective in terms of providing a realistic game experience. Depending on the technology implemented, the price also differs. Please note that, just because a golf simulator is using a costly technology does not mean it will be more accurate. The accuracy depend on many other factors.

Almost all the high-end golf simulator companies use mapping technology which produces a computer generated image of the golf course you are playing. The advantage here is that you get the real 3D view of the golf course in front of you on the projector screen which feels more realistic. There are other options such as playing with the simulators which use photo realistic image. The details in these images is of better quality and is more realistic as these are taken at high resolution. This would give you a feeling of playing on an actual golf course rather than playing on a computer or console based game. But still people prefer the mapping type simulators because they provide the 3D effects which is not present in the photo type golf simulators.

There are many more small points which results for cost difference, such a the hardware configuration of the system, the quality of projectors and many more. So next time you come across simulator, do check these factors to determine the reason for price differences.
