Correcting Your Golf Slice

When learning how to play golf, you need to know about correcting slices. Correcting a slice requires some time before you become that experienced golf player who always sends the ball flying straight to the target. There are many possible reasons you keep ending up veering to the far right. In the following paragraphs, I will cite all the helpful tips that could be beneficial for you.

As I have previously said there are numerous causes that could result in that dreary slice. One, quite common among golf players is the way you address. Many players use the square stance, placing the shoulders, hips and feet aimed to the target. However, moving your left foot too far ahead of the right foot can result in an open club face and a ball heading to the right. To serve as a guide, check to see if your left foot and hips is directly under your left shoulder. If this is not how your body is positioned, you will not be able to direct the ball to where you want it to go.

It is important that you check how you are holding the club. New golf players are not aware that a tight grip will cause that opened club head which leads to a poor shot. On the other hand, if you go to light in holding the club, you will still end up with a slice because of a wobbly head upon hitting the ball. The key grip, therefore, is not too tight nor too weak---called neutral. A neutral grip can easily be verified by inspecting the visibility of two or three knucklers from the left hand. If there are none, then that is an indication that you are holding the club incorrectly. What will result is an open club face because the hands will rotate to a neutral state as it returns to the strike zone. To readjust your grip, move the hands not the club until you see the sign that it is proper. Try to practice striking with the new grip to see if it works. The grip might be a very simple aspect of playing golf but making changes to this will have a huge impact. You may not always end up getting the right grip the first time so keep trying. Keep in mind the correct position once you have discovered it.

The tempo of the golf swing is very crucial. Do not get the power of your shots from using your arms. This is a common error among players. Then their hands initiate the downswing motion. Inevitably, this results in the open club face. Avoid suddenly swinging your club down from your top. Movements from the beginning up until the end need to be fluid and relaxed. Looking at your divot is also a helpful pointer. If you see it directed anywhere but towards the target then go back to checking your stance. Once you find the reason for those dreadful slice shots, it will be quite certain that you will be able to get the right shots in the future. Of course, you need to practice and master these basic strategies first. Then you are off to finding that new found joy in playing golf.

Follow the above tips and you will soon find your game improving to new levels.
