Golf course is the term used to refer to a field where a golf game is held. However, have you considered or wondered how a golf course is built. More importantly, one must look specifically into differentiating between a good and low quality golf course. It is not necessary for one to dive deep into the specific design layouts used in golf courses. There are specific aspects one must gain proper understanding in to ensure a fun and challenging golfing experience.

A regular golf course must not be entirely boring though, but it could also exhibit a fun atmosphere. But instead of adding some hazardous features into the course, natural elements from the land are utilized to build a layout for the course that offers enough challenge for the player.

Land is the first most important thing you need. In fact, you will need a lot of land for this. There are both long and short yardage holes in a golf course. Advanced golf players will agree though in that having longer holes in the course layout is what really adds challenge into the game.

Having several sand bunkers is a great way to present challenge on the golf course. Most bunkers are located around the hole, but they can also be placed in the fairway for added headaches! Having to hit out of the sand provides for all sorts of stroke modifications, and golfers love to have the challenge at hand!

Water bodies can also create enough challenge and sensation to golfers. So apart from natural water bodies like rivers, lakes etc, that are available in regular golf courses, man made water bodies can be incorporated in the design to make the golfers game more adventurous.

The golf course that we play most often used to be a cow pasture. The rolling hills that used to have Holstein's instead of golf carts make this particular golf course a lot of fun to try and get "up and down" on. Rolling hills cause a golf ball to - take a guess here - roll! You may have a great drive, but if your ball lands on the side of a hill, it will either stick there making your shot hard or it will roll off the side. Either way, this is another way to make a golf course challenging.

Natural trees and woods are also part of the golf course environment. There's nothing worse to hear on a golf course than the sound of your ball hitting a tree. Then you have the fun task of trying to find out where the ball landed. Did it go further in or did the tree propel it out into the fairway? Either way, you have another great way to challenge yourself with natural elements.

Therefore designing a regular golf course can be a challenge and a great fun simultaneously both to the designer as well as the player. A player needs navigating all these obstacles with positive attitude and sportsman spirit to improve his performance and enjoy the intricacies, thrills and adventures of the game of golf unendingly.
