Tiger Woods Putting Game Continues To Fall

Tiger Woods Putting Game Continues To Fall

The great Tiger Woods still looks to be struggling to find form this year and it looks to be his putting game that is suffering the most. He has always been known for his pressure putts, and alot of his greatest highlights in his career have come from those long range putts. I can still remember his gutsy 2009 U.S Open triumph which i think is one of his most courageous wins. And i was in awe after he beat Chris Di Marco in the 2005 Masters in a playoff after being 2 shots behind with 2 holes left.

But his recent form has been little to brag about. Woods shot a 2 over 73 in the first round of the frys open at Cordevalle golf club. But it was his putting that was letting him down, just like most of this year. Woods hit 27 putts along with hitting only 9 greens, while the rest of his game seems to be going fine. Tiger had described his putting performance in the first round as " one of the worst i have ever had ".

During Tiger Woods legendary career, he has always been one of the better putters on tour. In 2005 he ranked 9th in the statistic which measures putts gained over the rest of the field, in 2006 was ranked 22nd, 2007 and 2008 was 3rd and 2009 was 2nd. But the last 2 years has seen this drop dramatically, coming in at 109th in 2010 and 60th this year. His magic on the greens just doesn't seem to be there anymore. I dont think he has problems with this swing becuase his ball striking is still ok. So if he can get around this bad putting phase quiclky then he wont be too far from his best.

Tiger Woods did switch from his Titleist putter to a Nike putter in 2010 which could be some of the reason he has not looked as comfortable on the greens. Tigers old Titleist putter did bag him 13 of his 14 carrer majors and earned him around $60 million. It is worth wondering why he hasn't switched back yet after so much success with the Tiltleist putter!

The man who holds a record 14 major titles and is the first ever sportsman to reach the billion dollar mark has had a rough time in the last couple of years, losing his number one ranking and being caught up in the sex scandals. This has ultimately affected his game and nobody knows when he will be back to his best. He has only played 11 tournaments this year, Finishing in a tie for 4th at the masters earlier this year, and Tigers last tour victory coming way back in 2009 at the BMW Championships. Tigers is still swinging the club alright, but with his putting letting him down, i dont give it long until he claws his way back to his best and starts dominating world golf all over again.
