Beginner Golf Lessons: The Foundation Stones

There are 4 fundamental components of the golf swing which never change regardless of whether you are a beginner golfer or a touring pro. Before you begin any course of beginner golf lessons it is vitally important that you realize that to learn the game of golf you have to master these four fundamentals and continue to monitor them for as long as you play the game.

These four fundamentals, grip, stance, alignment and posture are the foundation stones upon which the rest of your golf game is built. Any small flaws in any of the four fundamentals will result in big flaws in other areas of your golf swing. Any beginner golf lessons you take should always begin with the four fundamentals

Beginner Golf Lessons: Check That Grip

An incorrect grip, for instance, can cause all sorts of problems. It can cause you to hook the ball or slice it. It can cause you to have an incorrect takeaway which leads to all manner of problems with the rest of your swing. So one tiny flaw in your grip can have a massive impact on your golf game.

Beginner Golf Lessons: The Good News

The good news is that these four fundamentals should be the easiest part of the golf swing to master. The reason I say "should be" is because all four fundamentals can be worked on in any place and at any time. Whenever you have a few spare minutes you can work on your fundamentals. So there is no excuse for not having sound fundamentals.

However, it amazes me to see so many golfers with poor fundamentals. You see them on the golf course cursing and swearing, banging clubs on the ground or kicking their bags in total frustration because they can't get that little white ball to do what they want it to do.

In many cases you can spot their problems from a mile away. Even before they swing the club, you can see that they are standing too far away from the ball or their feet are pointing miles to the left. Their grip is totally wrong or they are hunched over the ball.

Beginner Golf Lessons: The Bad News

The good news is that these are all things that, with a little bit of effort, can be fixed. Yet so many golfers choose to ignore them. The bad news is that the longer any golfer persists with these bad fundamentals, the harder they will be to fix.

Any golfer out there who has tried to fix a problem with their fundamentals will tell you how awkward it can be. Bad habits that have become ingrained in your swing can be very difficult to put right.

Beginner Golf Lessons: Pay Attention

So, as a beginner, it can not be stressed enough how crucial it is to get the fundamentals right, first time. Work on them as often as you can. After all, all you need is a golf club and somewhere to stand up. So, the next time you are having one of your beginner golf lessons, pay close attention. There are no excuses for not having great fundamentals.
