If you are playing 18 holes of golf and you are intending to walk around the course, you should be fully prepared for a long period of physical exercise. There is no need to have a fast pace when you are walking around the course but depending on your level of fitness, this could be a strenuous amount of exercise. In this case, it is sensible for all golfers to warm up properly before they play. Stretching Calf and thigh muscles should prepare the golfer for walking around the course and stretching the arms and shoulder areas should ensure that no difficulties occur when swinging the golf club.

When setting off to play, it is important to have an awareness of other players on the course. It is important to not encroach on players who may be ahead of you on the course. When attempting to play, be sure they are not in danger of being struck with the ball and provide a courteous shout of “fore” to warn them you are about to drive the ball. Equally, be aware that there may be players behind you on the course so do not unnecessarily delay your rate of play.

Whilst playing, if you manage to dig up turf or cause a divot on the course, it is important to replace the divot as best you can. It is usually sufficient to bed it back into place and spike it down your golf shoes but be sure to leave the course as close to the condition that you found it. It is also customary to remove any tees used after playing as well as any ball markers and bunker rakes.

Golf is a fun sport that should be enjoyable but by adhering to the rules of the course and the spirit of the game, it should be possible for everyone on the course to have a great day out without impacting on the game of anyone else.
