A few simple facts about a golf swing!

When we watch the professionals play this exasperating game, the thing that stands out more than any other is the easy rhythm of their swings.

When we have lessons, our pro will try and encourage us to swing through the ball and not HIT at it. Most of us find this a hard concept to master, probably, in most cases because we do not have enough time to practice. When we do have time, we want to play, NOT practice!

So, let抯 see if we can shorten the odds in our favour a bit. I am now just an average club golfer but I promise you that this worked for me and got me down from 16 to 6 in a very short time. Lots of others I have suggested it to have shown a dramatic improvement in their game.

SHORTEN here is the operative word. Getting the club head back to the same position behind the ball that it was at the address is the ideal result.

This is easy to do if you restrict your back swing to about 12 inches ?unfortunately you won抰 hit the ball very far!

So, let抯 compromise. How can you build up a swing which gets you back to the ball in the right position and still lets you get reasonable distance off the tee?

Anywhere where there are moving parts can lead to inaccuracy in the contact area. The two major contributors to these errors are the hands and the arms.

Considering the hands first.

The first essential is to have a good grip. There are many books and videos by qualified people which explain this and all I can stress is that 90% of all beginners have a poor grip. This is something you can work on for yourself and it doesn抰 cost a penny.

Now the arms.

Locating the right elbow (or left elbow for left-handers) close to your side on the back swing does two things. Firstly it provides a 憆eference point?for your swing arc, and secondly, it makes you turn your shoulders on your back swing.

Start off with a short swing and play something like a 7 iron off a tee. Practice this until you really feel you have 慻rooved?your mini-swing and as you confidence improves try fuller shots.

There is nothing new in this but there are so many things to think of as a beginner I am just trying to suggest a 憇hort list?/P>

All you need now is some really good weather!

Good Luck.
