Incredibly Light Ping Rapture V2 Driver Review

The Ping Rapture V2 driveris the newest brand among Ping's drivers, introduced in 2009 and serving as the centerpiece of a set that includes fairway woods, hybrids, and irons as well. A smart and aggressive addition to the renowned Ping family, the Rapture V2 Driver is another example of Ping's multi-metal approach to their popular golf clubs.

The Rapture V2's 460 cc head combines a titanium body with external tungsten weight pads that are located at the back of the club, near the heel and toe. The weight pads position the centre of gravity to allow the Ping Rapture V2 driver to deliver a lower spin and high launch angle together with a higher MOI that improves both distance and accuracy. The head is plasma-welded and it's taller face has been machined to variable thicknesses to promote increased ball speed and is styled with an aggressively tapered crown featuring the Double-Rapture alignment aid.

As power-oriented as the Rapture is, a big shock you won't get from a list of statistics is just how light-weight the club actually is. A big part of that lightness comes from the shaft, which weighs in at a mere 47 grams. It's just another surprising dimension to the highly versatile and thoroughly designed Ping Rapture V2 Driver, and it's one that makes this driver one of the lightest you can buy. The lightness doesn't come at the cost of control, however, because the weight you need has been focused on the crown, where it belongs. The name of the game here is a nice, big sweet spot.

All in all, Ping engineers have captured the hot face of the G10 golf clubs and the solid sound and feel of the original Rapture and put it into the V2 package.
