Golf Tips - How To Improve Your Golf Swing

Golf is a great sport to take up but it doesn’t come easily for everyone. The basics of golf stay the same but not everyone can apply the proper techniques.  Everyone’s body if different and that can cause problems with your swing, your stance and your balance.  Everyone is going to swing differently but the goal is to swing correctly.  If you want to play golf well, you are going to have to figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are and work with them to execute a perfect golf swing.  You have to figure out how to make your body bend the way it should and work on achieving the proper balance to get a great swing.

This is not going to happen over night but if you are serious about becoming a better golfer, the time you spend practicing will be worth it.  Unfortunately, some people will have to work much harder than others.  One thing that is true across the board for everyone is that you have to practice your skills in order to improve.  The more you practice with the correct form, the better your muscles will remember the correct moves of your body. Once your muscles get used to swinging properly, it will be easy you will have more confidence on the course.  Knowing that you play well will allow you to enjoyment of the game even more.

You will an almost immediate improvement in your golf swing if you work on stabilizing your head.  The more you can minimize head movement, the faster your swing will improve.  As you hold your head still, the next thing you need to work on is staring straight at the ball. As you practice doing this, keep in mind that your eventual goal is to keep your head straight in line with your spine.  You need to lift your head up just a bit so that when you begin to swing, your left shoulder fits under your chin.  You cannot hold your head steady by tucking it into your chests so don’t do that. It is impossible to perform a correct golf swing if you hold your body in this position and your swing will never improve.

First of all, remember that this is not easy and not everyone can easily hold their body in the correct position. If you are having trouble keeping your head straight and an eye on the ball, don’t give up.  Remember that it is a very common problem and you are not alone.  The next time you practice, position your feet and knees in the correct position but work on keeping your head and back straight.  Then, without losing the proper foot and knee positions, you want to bend forward a little at the waist and look straight at the ball.  When you first start practicing, you are going to have trouble making your swing without your shoulder hitting your chin.  As you practice swinging properly, this problem will slowly resolve.

Practice running through the backswing and downswing portions of your golf swing in slow motion.  At this point, you don’t want to actually hit the ball and follow through. Take the time to practice this portion of your golf swing and really focus on keeping your head straight and eyes on the ball.

The goal is to practice enough to make a technique that is uncomfortable eventually come naturally to you.  Find a quiet place, maybe in your back yard and run through this exercise about 25 times in a row.  After that, take a short brake and then try it again.  Be very aware of your body movements and make necessary corrections to your head and body position as needed so that you can keep your eyes straight on the ball and your left shoulder from hitting your chin.  The purpose of repeating this exercise over and over is to teach your body and your muscles to remember the correct position you need to be in so that you swing correctly.

This may seem boring and unnecessarily repetitive but if you want to improve your swing it is necessary. Think about the training that any sports athlete goes through.  They all have weaknesses and they all have to work hard to overcome them.  They put in a lot of hours training their bodies to naturally assume the correct stance and to be able position their bodies in order to properly execute the movements necessary to compete successfully in their chosen sport. You will have to train your body to keep your head straight and position itself so that you can successfully execute a proper golf swing.

Playing golf is a great way to exercise and have fun with your friends.  But it is not an easy sport to master.  Remember that to become a great player, you have to practice.  With dedication and hard work, you can improve your golf swing and improve your over all game.
