Derek Domecq led the Total Performance Elite 11U Baseball Team to the championship of the prestigious 2011 Cove Creek Classic. This is Domecq's first year playing for Total Performance after leading the 10U Fluvanna Team to the District 5 Cal Ripken Championship a year ago. Domecq has transferred out of Fluvanna County and will start classes at Henley Middle School in late August. Domecq has also led the Fluvanna TJYFL Governor's football team to three consecutive championships and 22 games.
This article appeared in the August 11 issue of the Rural Virginian. Derek Domecq is transferring from Fluvanna County Schools to Henley Middle School, part of the Albemarle County Public School System. Domecq was a regular on the straight A Honor Roll at Central Elementary School in Fluvanna County. Aside from the three football chapionships, he has also been a member of two Fluvanna County basketball championships as well as two regular season Fluvanna Youth Baseball Championships and one tournament championship.
Different Uniform…Same Result
Derek Domecq, who led the Fluvanna 10 year old All-Star Team to the 2010 District 5 Cal Ripken Championship and a first-ever berth in the Virginia State Tournament, was a member of the Total Performance Elite 11U team that captured the 2011 Cove Creek Classic. The Classic hosted elite travel baseball teams from Maryland, Washington DC, Northern Virginia, as well as area Virginia teams from Charlottesville, Augusta County, and Broadway. Last year Domecq led the Fluvanna team in batting .563, on-base percentage .657, and RBI's 34. He also pitched in 15 games with a 3.33 ERA and 49 strike outs. In the Cove Creek Classic, Domecq led his Total Performance team in hitting .563 (including 5 singles and 4 doubles in 5 games) and slugging percentage .813. He also pitched 5 and 1/3 innings picking up a win and a 1.33 earned run average. Domecq is transferring to Henley Middle School in Crozet. He will continue to play fall baseball for the Total Performance Team forgoing the chance to lead the Fluvanna Governors Football Team that he has played with for the past three years to a fourth straight championship season. For the last two years, Domecq has been the quarterback of the Fluvanna team that has won three straight city championships and 22 consecutive games.
