Baseball jersey types over the years

Baseball jersey in the United States is more than a sports uniform. The game has always been an integral part of the culture in America. Baseball teams in the USA have experimented with a wide collection of uniforms since the game's inception. Uniforms have undergone huge transitions over the years.

Designs on the apparel

Baseball uniforms have gone through a number of transition phases, ever since the concept came into existence, officially in 1849. Some of the designs became so popular that even MLB teams of the present time have also included them in their uniform designs.

Laces

When the game was played in the initial years, majority of the teams had laces on their jerseys. This featured covered almost all the length of the dress. Gradually its length got shortened and finally disappeared from the sports uniform.

Buttons

The end of laces on jerseys also resulted in the beginning of another feature on the apparel. Jerseys with buttons also became popular with large number of league teams. Besides its functionality, button also added aesthetic feature to the dress.

V-necked and round neck jerseys

Jerseys with buttons remained in vogue until V-necked and round neck t-shirts made their presence. This pattern of dress is still worn by players of the present generation. Infact, most of the uniforms worn these days come in this make.

Types of jerseys in terms of material used

Baseball jerseys can also be categorized according to the material used for making them. Some of the common types are below:

Cotton- This material used broadly used for manufacturing men's baseball jerseys before synthetic fabric was available. Dresses made from the fabric are very comfortable and is ideal for absorbing sweat. The biggest disadvantage of cotton uniform is that it comes heavy with sweat as the fabric doesn't become dry quickly.

Wool- Wool was used for making jerseys for sports person till 1930s-1940s before synthetic fiber was used for designing sports attire. But it is not very comfortable to wear.

Polyester- It is a synthetic material that is used for making uniform for different games. It is light weight. Nothing beats this fabric type when it comes to strength and durability. These features make them ideal material for manufacturing dress for rough games such as baseball, basketball, football etc. This is also one downside to the fabric. It is not very comfortable on skin.

Polycotton- This type of material is made by knitting polyester and cotton together. It gives a good balance between comfort and durability. Polyester renders strength and durability while cotton allows more air flow which adds to the comfort to the wearer. Most of the softball uniforms for men as well as other sports are made from this type of fabric.

How to buy sports uniform?

You can buy custom wears at quite affordable rates. If one you are buying uniform for your team for yourself, keep number of factors in mind. The dress must fit well on the wearer's body and full range of motion. The fabric must be tender on the skin of players.
