Everton looking to reclaim past glory

Everton is one of the most popular football clubs in England based in Liverpool. Although the Liverpool football club attracts massive crowds from this region but Everton is also a widely supported club in this part of England and abroad. The team was founded in 1878 and has attracted people from all over the world with their flair for entertaining matches and good football. The club has won several accolades over the years and has been through many ups and downs but it has carved out a niche for itself in world football through some brilliant individual and team performances.

England is the birthplace of football and a huge number of people follow the game religiously in the country. The English Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world and has followers all over the world. Everton has been at the helm of the league since the initial years and continues to play a major role.

Trophies and accolades

The players of the club from Goodison Park sport the traditional white and blue jersey and are known as The Toffees. The club won the first championship title as early as 1890-91 seasons. The FA Cup first came home in the 1906 season. The meteoric rise of the team began in 1927 season with the inclusion of Dixie Dean. The seasons in which Everton emerged as the champions of the domestic league in England are 1890-91, 1914-15, 1927-28, 1931-32, 1938-39, 1962-63, 1969-70, 1984-85, 1986-87. They have also emerged as the runners up seven times in 1889-90, 1894-95, 1901-02, 1904-05, 1908-09, 1911-12 and 1985-86. The FA Cup has been won by the team five times in 1906, 1933, 1966, 1984 and 1995. The historic European Cup final win came in 15th May, 1985.

Star performers

The Everton colours has been worn by some of the best players in the business like William Ralph Dean, Alan Ball, Neville Southall, Tommy Lawton, Alex Young, Peter Reid and numerous more. The team has been known for its competitive spirit over the years. The kind of football they play and the conduct of the players off the field has been appreciated by one and all. John Royle, Howard Kendall, Walter Smith and David Moyes have been prolific managers for the team over the years.

Present Form

The present form of Everton has been on the downward slide in the past few seasons although they have shown glimpses of brilliance from time to time. David Moyes had brought about resurgence in the team in the past few years that has helped them climb to the top of the table. Roberto Martinez has been given the responsibility of handling the team since 2013 and he has done a satisfactory job till now. They are presently placed eleven in the league with twenty seven points from twenty matches courtesy some outstanding performances by Romelu Lukaku. But the team has enough scope of improving in the near future.
