Is David Beckham Retiring? The Truth Behind the Rumors

2016/7/27 15:55:36

Could the rumors be true? When David Beckham recently announced that his time with the Los Angeles Galaxy would soon come to an end, fans were abuzz with anticipation. His last soccer match was held in the MLS Cup in late 2012.

Beckham has played with the Los Angeles Galaxy for over six seasons; he has recently voiced his goal of owning his own league franchise. Beckham revealed that instead of playing as part of the team, he'd prefer to advance into a potential ownership position in the future.

Official Retirement for Beckham Has Not Been Confirmed

But the important question hasn't been answered just yet. Beckham has not yet officially confirmed his retirement from soccer. In fact, many experts speculate that he could go on to play in Australia, although Beckham also denies these rumors.

So what does the future hold for the beloved global soccer star? Although Beckham has been playing the sport for over 20 years, he has told fans that he never gets tired of it. At this juncture, retirement doesn't seem to be an option for the soccer player, even though his body is likely to have taken a serious beating from rigorous training over the years.

Beckham revealed that he is learning from the example of Paul Scholes in his decision to reverse his retirement. After seeing Scholes retire and soon regret it, it reinforced for Beckham that he will continue to play for as long as he is able.

Beckham Remains Vague About His Future

Even though his time with the LA Galaxy is over, Beckham has confirmed that he would still like another opportunity to play in the Champions League before he retires. Still, the final answer is murky at best. Beckham has told reporters that "we'll see" what he does next.

Many insiders have speculated that recent changes in Beckham's career are in pursuit of money, but Beckham sticks to his guns by reminding fans that he has never been motivated by money as a soccer player. His main goal is to play for the best team, side-by-side with the best players.

Anxious fans can take heart in the fact that Beckham has made it clear that he will miss the game when he decides to stop playing. In the here and now, this could guarantee Beckham a few more good years on the field before he takes the final plunge into retirement.

Fans can continue to watch the headlines with bated breath to determine Beckham's next move. Whatever the future holds for global star Beckham, he's guaranteed to be successful as he is currently the eighth highest-paid athlete in the industry at $46 million in earnings.

Of course, much of his income comes from endorsements at $37 million; his soccer salary accounts for $9 million in income. If we don't see Beckham on the field in the near future, the odds are that we'll see his athletic physique endorsing some new product, whether it's cologne, a sports drink, or more Adidas gear.
