Chelsea fc: it is written.....

Soccer has always been about resilience. This fascinating game, which has brought joy to nations, has also crippled many dreams and aspirations. Usually, It only takes ninety minutes for history to be made. Ninety nerve wracking minutes of wit, and grit. Ninety gruelling minutes that sometimes, turn friends to foes and enemies to friends. At the end of ninety minutes, victors wipe away tears of joy, while the vanquished bury their heads in shame and disbelief. But that is essentially soccer for you. In the end, it's only a game. A form of entertainment.

For millions of Chelsea fans, players and management, I must extend my congratulations. Chelsea showed character, and a lot of resilience. Bayern displayed that conquering spirit, and bullish arrogance one only sees when Bayern plays; but this wasn't enough. Today, was simply Chelsea's day. Mother luck continued to smile on Chelsea. What with  Arjen Robens penalty miss; and Cech's spectacular save (when it appeared all was lost.) Not to forget that Didier Drogbas equalising header, was probably Chelsea's 'only visible serious attack; against Bayern. I had the impression Chelsea were only playing for penalty kicks. Drogba spent much of the match helping out his defence, (remember Bayern's squandered penalty kick was triggered by Drogba's clip on Ribbery?)

Even with the overwhelming advantage Bayern had playing a very depleted Chelsea team, I somehow felt that Chelsea had 'something' going for them. This became clear to me after watching Lionel Messi and his colleagues hit Chelsea's wood-work  countless number of times. What about that penalty Messi couldn't convert? To think that Chelsea was playing with a man less after Chelsea's captain John Terry was expelled!

Whatever your views on this match, one thing is certain, "History has been made. Chelsea FC has written a new chapter in the history of world soccer; A history that has not only catapulted them to the pinacle of world soccer; it has instilled a breath of fresh air into the English premier league! Bayern's loss does not in any way make them worth less or desirable to their teaming fans world over. It should make them more determined to conquer Europe once again. Resilience is the key! Once again, congratulations to Chelsea, and better luck to Bayern in the future.
