How to Adjust Reticle Focus on Nightforce NXS for Best Results

Nightforce NXS consists of many important parts such as objective lens, eye piece, eyepiece lock ring, illumination control and battery compartment, side parallax adjustment, elevation and windage adjustment, and power zoom ring. This riflescope comes with two distinct optical setting: parallax adjustment and reticle focus. In this article we will discuss about reticle focus.

Understanding Reticle Focus Setting

Reticle focus is used for matching a shooter's particular vision. Many shooters use vision correction while taking aim. In that case, after wearing these lenses the required focus adjustment should be done. Reticle focus should be adjusted before adjusting the parallax. While making adjustment one must keep the original factory setting in mind because that will help him return back to the original setting of the Nightforce NXS.

Basic Points of Adjustment

Here are the 4 essential points of adjustment:

1. The first adjustment an individual must make in the rifle scope he is using is the power zoom ring. He must set it at highest magnification.

2. Setting should be fixed at infinity in case of parallax adjustment.

3. Background clutter is a big problem. However, it has to be rectified by setting the device correctly. To set it right, a shooter should look through the eyepiece at a white wall or background having light color. The user must check whether focus can be done instantly. In addition, it must be ensured that the reticle is clear.

4. A user may feel that the reticle focus is correct even when it is not. This happens because of constant staring at reticle for sometime. However, this illusion can be done away with if the user looks away for sometime and then looks at the reticle focus again.

5. To get the best possible result, the eyepiece must be turned inward first until reticle gets partially blurred. This should be followed by the outward movement, unless sharpness of focus is obtained.

These steps are essential to get best result with your Nightforce riflescope. No matter which NXS model you are using (Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 / 5.5-22x50 / 3.5-15x56 / 2.5-10x24), the adjustment process is more or less similar in all of them.

Adjustment of Reticle Focus – Final Words

First of all, hold locking-ring in one hand and eyepiece in the other. Now, the eyepiece needs to be rotated in a counter-clockwise manner. Several turns may be required for achieving any measurable difference. However, it should be kept in mind that the power zoom ring, lock ring, and the rifle scope does not turn along with the eyepiece. In case you need out-of-focus starting point, you should turn the lock ring inward. Only after this, the eyepiece can be turned inwards. It is very important for a user to keep in mind that power zoom ring, lock ring and eyepiece work as a single unit. That's why tightening lock-ring against eyepiece becomes so important. So these are few essential steps to get the perfect reticle focus in Nightforce NXS riflescopes.
