Proper Flag Etiquette: When to Suspend the American Flag

A United States flag should not be flown during:

- Inclement weather: The flag should not be flown in inclement weather, such as rain, snow, or high winds, as it may become damaged or soiled.

- Night: The flag should not be flown at night unless it is properly illuminated. If the flag is not illuminated, it should be taken down at sunset and flown again at sunrise.

Additionally, the flag should not be flown on the following days:

- Maundy Thursday

- Good Friday

- Christmas Day

- Other days as ordered by the President of the United States.

On Memorial Day, the flag should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon, and then at full-staff for the rest of the day.
