Scared to swing

Question
Hi Michael,
I have a 9 year old son who moved into kid pitch this year.  He has always been a home run hitter, always played first, third or short, and always been an All Star.  He is always drafted first because of his great attitude, skill and is so very well liked.  Problem:  We have six games left in the season and he has yet to get on base with a hit.  He is 50/50 with walks and strikeouts.  Has had a few infield hits, but always out on first.  He kills the ball at home, at practice, but in the game, we can see his knees shaking.  It has gotten progressively worse and now he won't even swing.  He is a very laid back mild mannered kid, rarely gets mad.  As a single Mom, I taught him all I knew and this year he has a female coach for the first time.  He was afraid of getting hit by a pitch at first, and he has been hit three times but said it wasn't as bad as he thought.  He says he doesn't know what he is scared of but says he is watching the pitchers face and not the ball which we think is psyching him out.  The male coaches from opposing teams tell our coach what potential he has.  We are at a total loss.  He loves the game, loves defense even though this is his first year at left field, which was an adjustment.  I am willing to hire personal coach, but don't feel that is going to help him in the batters box.  He is also a pitcher, and has some nervousness there, but not as bad.  Any ideas, suggestions, help would be so greatly appreciated.  Thank you, Wanda

Answer
Wanda,

Thanks for the kind words.  I have seen this a lot and he will get past it and do great.  May I ask where you actually live.  You can email your answer to me at [email protected].  The reason I ask is because you mention a friend in San Antonio, and I live just north of SA myself.  Let me know.
