Understanding Baseball Saves: A Comprehensive Explanation
Question
What is a save?
Answer
Kevin,
A save is credited to a pitcher if he is not credited with a win, but finishes the game that his team wins if he meets any one of the following three conditions:
1) He pitches three or more innings,
2) He pitches one inning with his team ahead by three or fewer runs, or
3) He has the tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck.
Hope this helps!
