batter throwing bat

Question
Does the umpire have  the authority to call a batter out because he threw his bat after hitting the ball  - - the bat landed near the catcher but did not hit him - -  the umpire did warn the 10 yr old on his previous time at bat.   I mean this team has played in 3 post season tournaments and never even had one warning for this problem .   I thought that this punishment was out of line   and by the was he called the next batter for the exact same  violation
I  do not know all of the LL rules and am just curious as to whether this umpire was out of line on that particular call

Thank you
Bob Lusignan

Answer
Bob,

If need be, the umpire can give warnings and under circumstances, even eject the player, but unless throwing that bat effected the play, there is no out.

It could have been protested by your team manager.

I hope this has helped.
