sliding into first base

Question
1If a runner trips running home and touches home plate before being tagged, is he safe or out?
.
On a batted ball can the runner slide into first base?

Answer
hi john
i am not sure i understand the first question, but if a runner trips or not, touches home plate before being tagged, the runner is safe.

a runner may slide into 1b. however, the only time i would tell a runner to slide into 1b is to avoid the first basemen who had to leave the bag to get to a ball thrown up the line (toward home plate).

hope this helps.
