sore elbow

Question
My son is 13, playing in 13-14 yo division. He is our primary catcher, and one of our pitchers. After a tournament last weekend he complained of a sore elbow across the bottom half. During the weekend one day he pitched 45, and the next day another 45. I have always tried to manage all of our kids pitch count and not over throw them. I am very concerned about the sore elbow, where did I go wrong. Is it to much to catch, and pitch? Also after ice, and advil 4 days rest, should he start playing catch or is there a rule of thumb on rest or just go by how it feels? I have never had to deal with a sore arm and want to make sure I do the right things.

Thank you for your time and input, Alan T.

Answer
hi alan

give him some time off. if the pain is still there after 2 days, take him to see an expert.

when throwing a kid for 45 pitches, he actually throws much more if you count warm ups and in between innings. i would  give him at least one day between those kind of outings.

you sound like a dad that is trying very hard to make sure you do right by your kids. keep up the good work and keep asking questions. this is how we all learn.
good luck!
steve
