Baseball Rules: Is a Swing at a Bouncing Ball a Strike?

If a pitcher throws a ball that hits the ground about 8 ft from the plate rolls and the batter swings is this a strike?

Answer
Yes, any time a batter swings at a pitch & misses, it is an out.  By the same token, had the batter actually hit teh ball after a bounce, then it's a live ball & everything is a go.....Run Johnny run....
