Hitting problems

Question
Hi,

I am having big problems with my hitting. I am 15 years old and have always focused on pitching. I am considered one of the top pitchers in my school so all the coaches want to work on pitching with me and I never get to work on hitting with them. The only time I get to hit is on my own time at the batting cages or in a game. In 15 games last year I only had 7 hits. I hate not being a good hitter. I am 6' 2" 155lbs. I always start of the season hitting well and then I get into a TERRIBLE slump. I feel like I have no power and my swing is nothing like how it is when I am at the cages. When I am at the cages I have what I consider a very good stroke but when its gametime I feel like its real short and slow. What are the best hitting drills other than just taking live batting practice? All my coaches say (after a bad atbat): "Don't worry about it, just stay focused on pitching." I have a problem with not worrying about it. When I get home and I am about to go to bed thats all I can think about and I feel like an idiot. Please Help.

Thanks,

Shawn

Answer
Shawn it sounds like to me you need to tape yourself hitting in the cage and then in a game. This will show you exactly what you are doing wrong in a game. Also sometimes in this sport you have to make a choice on what to focus on.If you are an excellent pitcher focus on getting to college as a pitcher.Sometimes you can worry about the wrong thing and then you miss out on the other thing that makes us good.
Take a look at it and be honest with yourself and ask am I just a bad hitter? Can I go to college as a pitcher?Focus on the one that can get you to college.
