getting short

Question
i am a very stalky player, about 5'8 and all butt and thighs. i just completed my first college season at a jc and have always thought i had a compact swing. i am playing in a wood bat summer league and cant seem to get good wood on anything. i feel like i am jamming myself even when the ball is down the pipe. but in the cages and in practice i can swing wood all day.

i don't really know what my question is, but any theories or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Cameron,
First check your mechanics, make sure you have rotational mechanics and allowing your hips and rotation created to guide the hands.  If the hands are used to control the swing (Linear mechanics) that you may feel like you are getting jammed or not getting good wood on anything.  You may be overcompensating at the plate and not allowing the ball to come to you.  Because of this you may be using too much hands.  You may feel good in the cages because you are comfortable.  Make sure you are relaxed, in control, and have a plan when you come to the plate.

Thank You,
John Priest
