Average Speed Increase

Question
Hi, I am 14 years old and right now I throw 77 MPH along with a changeup and a curve (which i just started a couple weeks ago) and i would just like to know what is the average increase in velocity on a year to year basis?

Answer
That's a very tough question to answer Billy. Some players make great gains in high school and some don't. I personally was only throwing 86 mph as a senior in high school. It wasn't until I was 20 that I first hit 90mph. After that my velocity increased a little bit each year.
Some teammates of mine were throwing 90 mph as Juniors in High School but never got any higher.
My advice is that while you're waiting for the velocity to increase, work on your control. It will get you more outs than you may believe.
