Runner rules question

Question
AAU game:One out. A runner is on second base, the pitcher is in the wind up set position. The runner, breaks and attains third bases before the pitcher starts his motion, the batter hits a line drive caught by the second baseman who throws to second for what the umpire calls a double play? Is this the right call?
2nd part: is there a difference, if the pitcher has already started his motion and the runner attains the base before the release of the pitch towards home?

Answer
There is nothing in any rule book that I've read that pertains to this play so I will do my best with a rule interpretation.

By definition, a play starts when the pitcher takes his position on the rubber. Therefore, when that play starts the runner's original base is second base so yes that would be the right call. There is no difference where the runner is, only where the runner begins.
