Submarine Pitchers

Question
Is this a good way to throw?  Have you ever known anybody who had success doing this

Answer
Mark,
It's not for everybody, but yes, I can name several major league pitchers who had their careers reinvented by dropping down and throwing side arm (Dennis Eckersley, Brett Saberhagen, etc.).  Almost every college team has one guy who throws side arm as they can be very useful in certain situations.  In answer to your question, this is a very effective way of pitching if mastered correctly and actually puts less stress on the joints of the arm.

Check out a guy named Mike Myers on the Yankees.  LH side arm reliever (nasty).  I don't know how old you are or what body type you have, but with a little bit of hard work and patience, pitching in this manner is not all that hard to learn.  Obviously, a pitching coach with experience with side armers would help, but those hard hard to come by.  You can start playing around with it in the bullpen, but make sure to discuss it with your coach, first.

Hope this helps, Mark.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
